YOLO is out, SWAG is in

Although my birthday is on July 4th and I absolutely love fireworks, Christmas is a close second.  I have fond memories of my sisters and I waking my very irritated parents up at 3 a.m. Christmas morning ready to open presents.
I don't have kids to do that to me, but my students are exactly the same way. When we go on our big JEA trip, they are excited to receive their special t-shirt.  I can give them some old school sweatshirt or silly leftover giveaway I find stuffed away in a box in my office and they're over the moon and competitive to try to grab it first.
The $168,000 2015 Oscar Nominee Swag Bag
Unfortunately,the 2015 Oscar swag bag worth $168,000 is a
 bit out of my budget.
I thought the exchange today of the different school swag was quite the nifty idea and was quite appreciative.  Although I didn't have anything to contribute, it did give me ideas for different ways as Alan Weintraut said to brand my publications department.  I have worked this previous spring with my school's computer science department to develop an app to increase our readership.  I want to make some little school-related publications items to give away to students so that we have more awareness on campus.  I may not be able to give them a free lunch, but who can resist publications swag?

  1. Publications SWAG is cool We use the http://www.customink.com/ and they have been AWESOME. They have real people call and confirm everything. We did personalized sweatshirts (we're from Seattle, it's cold) and we do a distribution t-shirt. Incorporating part of your theme in your design of the shirts has been a hit with my kids. We've done some goofy SWAG too. Magic pens that have a light on one side. They write in clear and then the light reveals... I am scared to see what they wrote about the principal on the walls... We've done other kinds of pens and small things. We're talking about travel mugs this year... (We bought a class Kuerig) I hope one of the things we'll do this year is brand a logo for stationary. It seems old school but we need to up our "Thank You" notes to guest speakers and contributors to our program or even special interviews. The more we're out there, the stronger we'll be.
