The wheels on the bus...

So...that trip last night--how 'bout it? We've been pushed hard this week and we've learned hard and we needed a getaway. We got it. The highlight of my night in nor particular order:

1) Rusty Spoke (not Moose): what a cool bar. Cool bartender, manning the place on his own and doing a bang-up job. High-five soul mate. My introvert-extrovert sister. Field trip horror story (hehe--still snickering). I had great company and good beer. Small, intimate, dark but not too much, and a single musician sitting up front on a small stage, belting out songs by some favorites: Willie Nelson, Clapton, and... Journey?

2) No, that was Alan. It's always the quiet ones, huh? I was checking my phone on the bus-ride back when suddenly, the voice of an angel (snicker) filled the cramped bus. Alan lead us in an impromptu version of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin.' But he must not have thought we were singing because he kept starting over. Little did he know that the "Rusty Spoke Bregade" had his back and we were singin' to high heaven. Not a dry eye in the house.

3) Speaking of dry.  One word: MANDY. Oh, Mandy, Mandy, Mandy. Her friends discouraged her from telling her story but I said: "Do it! You need to get your story out to the masses!" And she didn't disappoint. Think Texas. Think HGTV. Think...ummm errrr older woman who may need extra assistance during a special occasion. It's a sticky situation but Mandy handled it with grace and informative prowess.

All in all, a successful night. I enjoyed getting to know new people and learning new information about those I'd already met. Thanks, guys!!

  1. All in all, it was a great night. I've had a lot of great days and nights with this group despite the fact that I'm a teetotaler. I shouldn't be too surprised that so many of us have become friends but it really has happened fast.

Everyone just enjoyed one another's company last night and there was a lot of positivity. Good vibes. I felt kind of miserable because of a headache, the heat, and the lack of A/C in our restaurant, but the food and the company made up for it.

Could we possibly get a re-enactment of Mandy's commercial rant?

  3. @Steve Haslam, no sir! I may never live that down. My mother always said...."Just because you think it Mandy, doesn't mean you need to say it!" Perhaps she had a point. That woman was always trying to "train up a child in the way she should go!!" I guess Merle Haggard said it best in his song, "Mama Tried."

  5. Last night was a great treat! The food was wonderful. Scotsdale was wonderful. The bus singing and stories were... memorable to say the least! Lots of fun had by all.

  6. It's always nice to decompress and have fun. It's what we need to remember to do, in a tamed version, with our staffs throughout the year. I need to infuse more fun into my classroom.
