Try It, You’ll Like It
As others have said in
their blogs, so much information and learning that we are doing this week is
new. And new can be scary. For me, almost all the assignments are very new. But
I have loved trying them.
Yesterday when we were out
experimenting with recorders, trying to excel with audio, David Gwizdala’s
interview question was, “what is the one thing you will take home from this
institute?” The one thing may be that I know so little!
Armed with more courage
than knowledge, I stepped bravely into the street –literally-we needed that
establishing shot-to create my first video.
Al Schleicher, directed
our group to the Westward Ho to ask residents about gentrification. Sharon
Fonzo quickly engaged the small crowd hanging outside the front door, all while
keeping her eye on possible shots inside
the door. Steve Haslan masterfully set up the camera and turned it on-this is
really important-and oversaw the angles. Al and I took turns asking the
questions.
We found Danny and Byron.
They had so much to say and until Byron began his antiwar ramble, it was
meaningful to our interview.
We tried it and we loved
it.

What a great message. Trying is the goal here. Thanks.

It seems like every member of your group is learning a great deal with this project. How exciting and what a great experience to take back to your classroom!
